Buchanan, Montrose & Verplanck

The Village of Buchanan and hamlets of Montrose & Verplanck, are riverfront communities located within the Town of Cortlandt.

Buchanan is home to Entergy, which provides electricity to the entire region, and serene Lents Cove Park with a boat launch and baseball field. Drive around 9A/Albany Post Road, Westchester Avenue & Tate Avenue to explore the business districts. 

Verplanck is known for its Revolutionary War history, specifically the location of the strategic Kings Ferry between Stony Point and Verplanck's Point, which George Washington's army used to cross the Hudson on its march to Yorktown, VA in 1781. Verplanck is also home to a replica of the ship the Half Moon, with which Henry Hudson explored the Hudson River. Pick up some lunch on Broadway (between 5th and 6th Street) and enjoy at the historic Verplanck Point with a view of Stony Point Park, play ball at Letteri Field, stroll along Lake Meahagh Park, or have fun in July at the OLMC Italian Feast on Highland Ave & 8th St.

Montrose is home to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Campus of the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System and George's Island Park, a 208 acre, scenic, waterfront park which contains tidal wetlands, a freshwater pond, wooded trails, picnic areas and boat launch. Take a drive down and enjoy the tranquil trails, play ball at Sunset Park or dine or shop on 9A/Albany Post Road.

Buchanan, Verplanck, & Montrose are about 45 miles North of Manhattan/NYC and 35 miles South of Poughkeepsie.
